'Serious pressure': Paul Merson feels Tottenham Hotspur have too big a mountain to climb against Newcastle United

Newcastle United will be looking to make it three wins in a row in the Premier League on Tuesday night when Tottenham Hotspur come to St James' Park for an 8:15pm kick-off live on Sky Sports.

While Newcastle are looking to make it three consecutive victories, Thomas Frank will be hoping his side doesn't make it three consecutive defeats.

This contrast in form, combined with the fact that Newcastle have already conquered Tottenham at St James' Park once this season, suggests it could be a bad night for Spurs.

That's how Paul Merson appears to be thinking with his score prediction for Sportskeeda.

Paul Merson says Thomas Frank has put himself under 'serious pressure'

The former Arsenal man believes there's a lot of pressure on Thomas Frank after his comments directed towards the Spurs fans at the weekend, and it is all playing into Newcastle's hands.

"Tottenham are under severe pressure now. Even though both Newcastle and Tottenham are on the same number of points, their trajectory is the exact opposite. Newcastle are on the rise by winning their last two, while Spurs have now lost twice in a row!

"I heard Thomas Frank reacting to Tottenham fans booing Guglielmo Vicario for his error in the 2-1 loss to Fulham by accusing them of not being true supporters. I can assure you that his comments will not go down well with Spurs fans. You can say that while being manager of Brentford and it might work, but not at Tottenham, not after what they have been through over the years.

"No one likes getting stick from your own fans. But the supporters spend serious money to watch matches and when their team loses to Fulham at home, they are free to make their feelings known.

"Nick Woltemade has been amazing for Newcastle. I've waxed lyrical about him all season. He scores all sorts of goals, lovely little lob over the goalkeeper against Everton, we don't see that a lot in modern football these days. I'd be surprised if he doesn't score in this game!

"Tottenham take one step forward and then go three steps back. Frank is under serious pressure after his comments too. I expect Newcastle to win this game. So basically, it will be a cup final for Frank when Spurs face his former club Brentford on Saturday.

"Prediction: Newcastle United 3-1 Tottenham Hotspur"

Fingers crossed that Paul Merson has got this one right

We'd love for Merse to be right with this one. Another big win off the back of the Everton demolition and the win over Man City would launch Newcastle back into the top half of the table and do wonders for confidence.

It's very tight in the middle of the table right now, and if we can keep the wins coming, we'll soon be back where we belong, near the top of the table.

Sunderland absolutely shouldn't be our yardstick when it comes to Premier League position, but getting above them before the derby would be a huge psychological boost going into that game.
