Tottenham fans will begrudgingly have to accept the verdict of Daniel Sturridge after losing to Chelsea on Saturday.

Following Tottenham’s 2-0 loss to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, the game against the Blues emerged as a perfect chance for Thomas Frank to put things right.

However, Chelsea beat Tottenham 1-0 in North London, which has only piled more pressure on Frank and the Lilywhites.

Tottenham have had attacking struggles all season, with Richarlison failing to perform for Spurs, as fans won’t like having to agree with what Sturridge said about the Lilywhites.

Daniel Sturridge was right about Tottenham’s home performances

There have been poor performances at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season, with losses to Bournemouth and Aston Villa, but now to Chelsea as well.

MORE SPURS STORIES

In the game against the Blues, Tottenham again proved that something is missing when they play on their own patch.

Speaking live on Sky Sports ahead of kick-off, Sturridge explained his worries about Tottenham’s differences away and at home.

Sturridge said: “Different styles. When you’re playing away from home, you have the opportunity to sit back a little bit. They’ve got defensive players in the midfield areas, Bentancur and Palhinha.

“I think playing at home, you need to be playing on the front foot, you need to be creating opportunities; that’s something they are lacking at the moment, heavily relying on set-piece goals.

“Playing at home, you want the fans to be excited. There’s grumbles of the performances not quite being there.”

In the 45th minute, Tottenham fans booed as their side were passing around the back in their own half, with Chelsea camped back, easily defending a one-goal lead, as more frustrations were voiced throughout the game.

Thomas Frank’s lineup vs Chelsea was negative

Frank started with his usual 4-2-3-1 formation, but the players he went for up top were very concerning.

Lucas Bergvall has been impressive all season for Spurs, and was unfortunately taken off in the seventh minute for Xavi Simons due to an injury.

However, Frank decided to play Bergvall on the left side of the attack with Pape Sarr central, as the attack unsurprisingly failed to unsettle Chelsea’s backline.

Thankfully for Tottenham, the games come fast for Frank to be able to turn things around, as the Lilywhites play FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

But on the basis of this display, far more is needed from Tottenham going forward.
