The former Tottenham star who could succeed Thomas Frank as manager

Ryan Mason has been tipped to take over at Tottenham as manager in the distant future.

There was fierce backlash after Tottenham sacked Ange Postecoglou soon after lifting the Europa League trophy.

Thomas Frank was installed at the helm, but there have already been concerns about whether he’s the right man for the job despite a decent start to the season.

With the Lewis family prioritising Spurs’ sporting success, there is no doubt the club’s hierarchy will be prepared to make some difficult decisions if needed, and if the time comes to bid Frank farewell, Mason could become a legitimate consideration.

Tottenham could be impressed with Ryan Mason’s experience

Mason departed Tottenham to manage Championship side West Brom over the summer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Before then, he had worked under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, the latter of whom rated the Championship coach highly.

He was also an assistant coach in North London, the same season that Tottenham won the Europa League.

With plenty of experience at Spurs under his belt, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Tottenham expert and Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham believes Mason could one day manage the North London club.

“I think one day he will become the manager of Tottenham, I really do,” Wenham said.

“I think it goes well for him with these other clubs, and one day he will be the manager at Tottenham.

“He’s been the interim manager two or three times, has worked with Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, so he’s had a lot of experience at Tottenham. So I think one day that will happen.”

Ryan Mason would not be an upgrade on Thomas Frank

As much of a legend as he is at Tottenham, Mason will struggle to solve the issues currently present at Spurs.

Indeed, West Brom have struggled to create meaningful chances:

Meanwhile, despite being on the top end of Premier League scoring charts, Spurs have mostly netted from set-pieces.

If Mohammed Kudus has a bad game or isn’t on the pitch, the Lilywhites are less of a goal threat.

While it is still early days for Mason, and, of course, losing Albion’s leading assister, Tom Fellows, over the summer wouldn’t have helped, his management at West Brom indicates that he may struggle to solve Spurs’ creative issues when missing key creative players.

As a result, it will at least be several years before Mason is even considered to take over in North London.
