Racing Club de Avellaneda have joined Rosario Central in the race for Tottenham Hotspur’s Alejo Véliz.
Earlier today, we covered claims from TyC Sports that Racing made a $5m bid for 60% of the striker’s rights. They also stated Spurs have agreed to sell if some details of the offer are modified.
Wednesday’s edition of Olé and Racing de Alma both state the Argentina club have denied making an offer to Tottenham for the 21-year-old.
Racing’s Maxi Salas is set to leave and their manager, Gustavo Costas, requested the club sign Véliz.
Olé reports they plan to initiate contact with the Europa League winners for the Argentina U21 international, to please Costas.
After denying making an offer, Racing sources have told Olé they are keen and will push to sign Véliz.
The same source further states: ‘Racing will surely consider sending an offer for Véliz.’
The player’s contract is until 2029, and the newspaper states Thomas Frank’s side are willing to negotiate for a percentage of his rights.
Racing de Alma states the possibility of him joining the club is ‘gaining momentum’. They plan to make formal contact with the north London club and will ‘seek to expedite the move’.
The website also reports Racing are planning to send an offer to Tottenham in the ‘short term’. They may make a ‘significant financial push’ to sign Véliz by investing part of the €8m fee they will receive from Salas’ sale.
