A 24th minute header from veteran defender Fabian Schar got Newcastle off to the perfect start, with Spurs always chasing the game from that point onwards. It stayed 1-0 until early in the second half, when another headed effort in the 50th minute from new hero striker Nick Woltemade consigned the North London outfit to a defeat.
Given this competition brought NUFC their first trophy in 56 years, supporters will be keen for more success this year, and with only two matches to go until another potential final, that does feel like a distinct possibility for Eddie Howe's men.
Next up in the Carabao Cup is Fulham, with Toon fans surely grateful about another home tie in the quarter finals, with that game set to be played in mid December.
