On-loan Yusuf Akhamrich scored a stunning double for Bristol Rovers to help them to an important 3-0 home win over Newport County on Saturday.
The 20-year-old Academy product lit up the Memorial Stadium with a superb left-footed shot from distance into the top corner 11 minutes into the League Two contest.
He then doubled his and his side’s tally with a composed finish just before the half-hour mark, Fabrizio Cavegn later joining him on the scoresheet as Rovers defeated their fellow strugglers to move four points clear of the relegation zone.
Having linked up with Steve Evans’ men earlier this month for his first taste of senior football, Yusuf completed 81 minutes on what was his first start for the club. He had previously come off the bench in back-to-back 1-0 away defeats to Salford City and MK Dons.
Saturday’s goals were not his first at the Memorial Ground, though – he scored for our Under-21s against Rovers on their enclosure in the Vertu Trophy back in August.
