Tottenham Hotspur are now on the cusp of starting their first Premier League season under new boss Thomas Frank.
No one in N17 will need reminding that Tottenham’s final league position under Ange Postecoglou wasn’t acceptable last term.
Daniel Levy decided to sack Postecoglou owing to Spurs’ league woes, even if they did win a trophy on the continent.
But either way, a new era in north London is about to begin, and Thomas Frank’s arrival has provided reason for optimism among Tottenham fans.
Frank’s Brentford side consistently punched above their weight since their promotion to the English top flight, and the Danish manager deserves a chance at a top club.
That being said, Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards have all now provided their thoughts on where Spurs will finish under Frank this season.
Speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast, Lineker predicted that Tottenham could rise to a European place this season – something Shearer thought was a stretch too far.
Lineker began the chat: “I’d sense an improvement will happen this season. I think they’ll be well-organized, probably play slightly differently to they did under big Ange.
“Big improvement incoming, I think the European spots are what I’m gonna go for.”
Shearer replied: “Do you? That far, do you? That’s a big ask to go from 17th to qualifying for Europe, isn’t it? In terms of getting in the top six, isn’t it? It’s a big one.
“I see them obviously improving, but I don’t see that much improvement. I’ve got them like Man United, seven, eight, nine, something like that.”
Richards: “Yeah, top six for me, Spurs, top six.”
Shearer: “Really?”
Lineker: “You’ve got a lot of teams in the top six, Micah.”
Tottenham pushing to sign Manchester City’s Savinho
In the lead up to his prediction, Lineker listed the signings Spurs had already made this summer, most notably bringing in Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palinha.
Palhinha should be a real success at Tottenham, and Kudus will obviously bring a lot of attacking quality to Frank’s side as well.
But as TBR Football previously revealed, Spurs are interested in signing Savinho from Manchester City, a deal which is now gathering pace.
Journalist David Ornstein has now claimed that talks have begun between the two clubs over a potential transfer.
And perhaps James Maddison’s unfortunate injury has accelerated Tottenham’s plans to strengthen their attack.
Kudus might now be envisioned in a central role to deputise for Maddison – a role he often played at West Ham United.
