Arsenal are expected to compete with north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in enquiring over a potential transfer move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola this summer.
The 22-year-old, who helped PSG knock out the Gunners in the Champions League semi-final, has enjoyed a head turning season in the French capital. Capable of playing on either flank, as well as through the middle, Barcola had picked up an impressive 21 goals and 18 assists this term before the Champions League final against Inter.
Catalan outlet El Nacional also namechecks Newcastle United as a Premier League club looking at a move for Barcola. The Magpies join Arsenal and Spurs in being able to offer Champions League football next term.
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur linked with move for Paris Saint-Germain forward
The report adds that despite Barcola’s brilliant season, he has found playing time inconsistent under Luis Enqirue with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to compete with. That could point towards the player, who is contracted at the Parc des Princes until 2028, open to a move away.
PSG are not expected to be actively looking to sell the young talent but it is touted that a £42 million bid would be enough to tempt the outfit to sanction an exit. Proven in Ligue 1 and the Champions League, Barcola would be a marquee signing for a Premier League club. Barcola joined the French giants from Lyon in August 2023 for a £38 million fee - he is a product of the Lyon youth academy having broken through into first team football in 2021.
Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta is expected to make a new winger a priority this summer, alongside a central midfielder and a striker. Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is expected to be the former Atletico man’s first coup and talks are now underway for Benjamin Sesko to follow.
Barcola praised by former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud
There are questions over the future of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard with some transfer talk. Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling is expected to return to Chelsea following the end of his loan spell. Ethan Nwaneri has deputised well out wide when needed but is still just 18 years old.
A move for Barcola would come with the recommendation of former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud too. In a column for L’Equipe earlier this season, the talisman outlined why the forward would be an exciting arrival.
Watching the player begin to break through with the French national team, Giroud wrote about his opinion on a ‘good guy’. He said: “He has always been discreet off the field. He is someone who speaks little… What surprised me about him, and about today’s young players, is how confident they are during their early training sessions. Especially him.
"From the start, he showed what he’s capable of. You can see the potential. He still has room to grow, but he’s already very skilled in dribbling and penetration.”
