Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has been told to consider a move abroad after talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a January transfer were put on hold, with Arne Slot lacking defensive cover
Andy Robertson has been advised to contemplate a move away from the Premier League when he decides to depart Liverpool. The left-back's contract is due to expire at the end of the season, and there has been considerable speculation about him leaving the Reds before the January transfer window closes.
Robertson's future has been the subject of much conjecture, with Tottenham Hotspur recently showing interest in signing the Liverpool vice-captain.
The Scotland international has found it difficult to secure a regular starting spot for Liverpool this season following the £40million acquisition of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, reports the Liverpool Echo.
It has been reported that discussions between Liverpool and Tottenham regarding a deal for Robertson have come to an end, with the expectation now being that the defender will stay at Anfield beyond next Monday's deadline.
What lies ahead for Robertson after this season remains uncertain, with it being stated prior to the latest update on Tottenham's interest that neither the player nor the club had made a decision.
In the midst of the ongoing rumours, former Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has suggested that a move abroad might be the best course of action for Robertson.
“Andy Robertson’s next club will depend on what he wants to do at this stage of his career,” Strachan said in an interview with Poker Scout.

“I believe at his age, he’ll get a kick from going abroad and seeing something different, rather than staying in the Premier League and signing for a club like Tottenham.
“When I was Andy’s age, I left Manchester United and moved to Leeds, which gave me a real injection of enthusiasm for my football.
“I think that’s what Andy wants – to enjoy his football again. He’s still at a level where he can play for most European clubs, so we’ll see who’s interested when summer comes round.”
Liverpool boss Arne Slot confirmed that Robertson will be in the squad for the club's Champions League fixture against Qarabag on Wednesday evening, and indicated he anticipates the 31-year-old to remain at Anfield beyond the current transfer window.
"Robbo is part of the team tomorrow evening," said Slot on Tuesday. "And he's been part of this squad, of this club for so many years. And I'm happy to have him.
"It's good that he's available, because that's quite important for us at the moment to have players available. It's hard to say anything definitive in this world we are in, but I expect him to stay, yes."
