Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are in talks over a move for the Reds vice-captain before the January transfer window closes, and Andy Robertson may well have played his last game for the club

Liverpool remain in talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a move for Andy Robertson, which could be completed before the end of the January transfer window - and some fans in the Liverpool Echo comments section are against the move for a variety of reasons.

The 31-year-old's contract runs until the end of the season, and while discussions around an extension have been teased, nothing concrete has been revealed.

Spurs' interest for the Scotland international could well mean that Robertson's stay at Anfield, which began with a mere £8million transfer from Hull City back in 2017 and spanned wins in the Premier League and Champions League, is coming to an end.

No decision has been made, but the Liverpool vice-captain has fallen behind in the pecking order to 22-year-old Milos Kerkez, who arrived in the summer to be Robertson's long-term successor.

The club will be mindful that selling Robertson could leave them lacking options in defence, and recalling Kostas Tsimikas, who is currently on loan at Roma, is an option.

Saturday night saw Liverpool suffer a 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League, where Robertson was initially named on the bench for the match.

Arne Slot made the decision to bring Robertson on after the half-time interval, replacing Kerkez in the process. Meanwhile earlier in the day, struggling Tottenham were held to a 2-2 draw with Burnley.

Debating the potential transfer, some Liverpool fans are clearly against the idea. Reader Cyclingcylon says: "Terrible news! Andy should be given a new contract here and be playing more regularly."

Commenter Billie!!! writes: "No... we are short enough in defence, and he can still do a good job for us."

FAME College says: "This might not be the good idea, we need him and perhaps even for an extended period. Andy is a leader in the team, the manager has to be careful releasing such an important personality from the club. It might just be the most stupid idea to let Andy go to another [Premier League] club at this moment in the season."

Bluesaredeluded says: "It makes absolutely no sense to let Robbo go now. And if he does leave on a free in the summer so be it, he's earned that right."

Others think that he may well end up at Spurs. Ronmcmullan says: "I think this is Andy's call, I hope he stays and becomes the James Milner in the dressing room, the seasoned pro who sets the standards. However if it's his choice to leave then good luck to him at Spurs. It might also create a relationship which may be useful if we go back looking for [Micky] Van De Ven."

Ramon23 writes: "I’d rather keep him but he may want to be playing regularly with the World Cup coming up, and also because he still offers something. I just hope we have someone in mind to compete with Kerkez, or maybe a players who can fill centre-back and left back like Bastoni from Inter. All ifs and buts, but surely someone will come in."

Stardestroyer says: "Robbo has been a fantastic role model, leader and someone we can rely on. He was a bargain, he's won everything club level. So no matter what happens, we will always appreciate what he's done for Liverpool and we thank him."
