Postecoglou is out of work after being sacked by Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month. The Australian coach led Spurs to a Europa League title, their first major trophy since 2008.

Despite that success, a poor league campaign saw them finish near the bottom of the English Premier League, leading to his departure after just one season.

Now he’s being linked with a move to Major League Soccer. LAFC, who are aiming to reach the playoffs, are in the market for a new manager after parting ways with Steve Cherundolo. Reports in the United States say the club’s Technical Director, Neil McGuinness, is keen to bring Postecoglou to California.

McGuinness knows Postecoglou well from their time at Celtic. He worked as a scout at the Glasgow club when Postecoglou was manager, and helped shape the squad that won five trophies in two seasons under the Australian. McGuinness is now one of the decision-makers at LAFC and is understood to be driving the interest.

LAFC already have big names in their squad, including Olivier Giroud, and want a manager who can deliver silverware. Postecoglou’s attacking style and proven record make him an attractive option.

The 59-year-old has worked all over the world. He started in Australia, won titles in Japan, then became a fan favourite at Celtic before moving to the Premier League. His career has shown he’s not afraid of new challenges.

Although clubs in Europe and elsewhere are also said to be interested in hiring him, LAFC believe they have a strong chance of convincing him to make the move to MLS.

Postecoglou is seen as one of the top available managers right now, and LAFC are serious about their approach. If he accepts, it would be another big step in a career that’s already seen success on several continents.

No deal has been agreed yet, but talks are expected to continue in the coming weeks as LAFC prepare for the next stage of their season.
