The January transfer window is really going to separate the wheat from the chaff at Tottenham Hotspur.
Ange Postecoglou has been in the job for 18 months now and to consider the team right now are playing at their worst during that time is bewildering. Christmas Day and you would have to scroll down to the bottom half of the Premier League to find Spurs sitting in 11th place.
Granted this is still only eight points shy of the top four with less than half the season's matches played, but to argue injuries have decimated Spurs to this extent is a disappointment.
The current list of absentees has first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario ruled out until late in the season, central defenders Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven out until next month at the soonest, Wilson Odobert absent for an unknown period of time then Ben Davies, Richarlison and Mikey Moore should all be returning soonest.
In the wake of the situation, Postecoglou has said he will aim for January recruitment.
"I think, yeah, reinforcement. Like I said a while ago, we've been planning. A lot of it was going to be around where we're at around this time," he said on Christmas Eve.
"Fair to say we're still a little bit short in a couple of areas and we need to reinforce. But January's trickier in terms of what sort of players you can bring in.
"I think it makes sense. We will try and reinforce where and what number we'll have to wait and see."
Striving to improve in the league with also a Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool and potentially Europa League knockout football in the coming months, there is still a lot to play for.
