Anthony Gordon seeks summer move from Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur face mass exodus if relegated from Premier League - Paper Round
Anthony Gordon is expected to "seek a move" away from Newcastle United this summer, claims The Telegraph, with Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Liverpool keen on the forward.
A number of key players, including Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes have been linked away from the club, with Eddie Howe's side facing the prospect of no European football next season. Newcastle are currently 14th in the Premier League table.
Gordon is said to want his "future sorted" before this summer's World Cup, with the 25-year-old expected to play a big part in England's campaign.
"Anthony Gordon is keen to explore his options to leave Newcastle United in the summer as he looks to follow Alexander Isak out of the club," reads the Telegraph article.
"Newcastle have not been told by Gordon that he wants to leave, but the feeling inside St James’ Park is that the winger will seek a move in the summer and the club are aware of potential interest from England and Europe.
"As a result, the Newcastle hierarchy is braced for bids to come early in the summer as the player is keen to get his future sorted before the World Cup.
"Bayern Munich have been widely credited with an interest in him this week, but Newcastle have scoffed at suggestions they would entertain bids of between £55-60m. That was the valuation circulated in German media reports, although the asking price for the England international is likely to exceed £80m.
"Arsenal have a long-standing admiration for Gordon and he has featured in recruitment planning meetings. It will also be interesting to see whether Liverpool rekindle their interest in a player they were close to signing in the summer of 2024.
"A long-term injury to Hugo Ekitike may force Liverpool to sign another forward in the next transfer window and Gordon’s ability to play across the front three could hold fresh appeal. He is a boyhood Liverpool supporter and would jump at the chance to return to Merseyside if the opportunity came."
Spurs face mass exodus if relegated
The Daily Mail report that Tottenham Hotspur could face a mass exodus of key players if they are relegated from the Premier League.
Spurs are currently in the relegation zone, having failed to win a league match so far this calendar year.
Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Xavi Simons, as well as Guglielmo Vicario, Pedro Porro, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, are all expected to leave should the club be relegated to the second tier.
The paper reports: ”Some might have clauses enabling them to leave after relegation, and others will not expect to slum it in the Championship. Romero, Micky van de Ven and Xavi Simons lead this category as established internationals players in their prime years sure to command interest from clubs in the Champions League.
”Loan options on Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich and Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain will likely be declined.
”Inter Milan are interested in goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and confident of striking a deal for £20m. Full back Pedro Porro is another moving into the final two years of his contract and sure to attract interest.
”They would love to build a team for the future around Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, both 20, and Luka Vuskovic, 19.
”But Liverpool and Bayern Munich have eyes on Gray. Chelsea and Aston Villa on Bergvall. Barcelona and Bayern admire Vuskovic who is not keen to return to Spurs after a successful loan at Hamburg.”
Chelsea lead race for Scott
Chelsea are keen on a move for Bournemouth’s Alex Scott this summer, according to The Independent.
Scott scored the winning goal at Premier League leaders Arsenal last weekend as his impressive campaign continued.
The midfielder is also reportedly wanted by other clubs.
"Chelsea have accelerated interest in Bournemouth's Alex Scott, ahead of what may be an auction for the midfielder in the summer," reports The Independent.
"The 22-year-old has been one of the break-out stars of the season, even earning an England call-up in November. That has only escalated interest from the wealthiest clubs in the division, with Chelsea so far understood to have shown among the firmest interest.
"Bournemouth would want well over £50m, given how Scott signed from Bristol City for around £25m in the summer of 2023. There is the potential for that fee to be much higher depending on how many clubs move.
"Chelsea are keen on Scott, especially amid anticipated changes in their midfield in the summer."
Caicedo set for new Chelsea contract
Chelsea are set to receive a boost with Moises Caicedo on the verge of signing a new contract.
It has been a tough month for the Blues with head coach Liam Rosenior overseeing three straight Premier League losses and an exit from the UEFA Champions League.
However, Caicedo pledging his future to the club would be a huge lift for the London side.
"Moises Caicedo is poised to hand Chelsea a significant boost by signing a new contract and reaffirming his commitment to the club," writes The Telegraph.
"Telegraph Sport understands that Caicedo has agreed the terms of a new deal, which will extend his commitment and recognise his performances with a pay rise, with Chelsea preparing an official announcement.
"Caicedo has recently changed representation to the Base agency, which also looks after Cole Palmer, and he becomes the second star Chelsea player to agree a new contract in the past month after captain Reece James."
