Arsenal are plotting a move for Tottenham Hotspur star Lucas Bergvall, with their north London rivals now in serious danger of being relegated from the Premier League.

Although the Gunners slipped up in the trip to the Etihad Stadium, they are still primed for a very exciting end to the season, having progressed to the Champions League semi-final, while they also continue to lead the way in the Premier League.

Spurs' current plight will no doubt be of great joy to a large section of the fanbase too, with Georginio Rutter bagging a 95th-minute equaliser for Brighton to deny Roberto De Zerbi his first victory on Saturday.

However, there are bigger concerns for Arsenal at the moment, having fallen to a 2-1 defeat against Manchester City on Sunday, in a game that could have huge ramifications on the Premier League title race.

Pep Guardiola's side are now just three points off top spot with a game in hand, and they have the opportunity to overtake the north Londoners by defeating Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday night.

Arteta will be fully focused on making sure his team finally get over the line, after a sticky spell since the EFL Cup final, but planning is going on in the background ahead of the summer transfer window.

Arsenal plotting move for Lucas Bergvall

According to a report from Caught Offside, Arsenal are now plotting a stunning move for Tottenham star Lucas Bergvall, who ENIC are desperate to keep, given that he is regarded as a key component of the squad.

Should Spurs be willing to cash-in, they are expected to open negotiations at £50m, although there is no pressing need to sell the midfielder, as he remains under contract until the summer of 2031.

Chelsea and Barcelona are also credited with an interest in the 20-year-old, who has been described as having a "first touch like Modric" by The Athletic's JJ Bull.

It has been a torrid season for Spurs, and Bergvall has struggled on the injury front, missing large portions of the campaign, but he has managed to amass one goal and three assists in 20 Premier League appearances.

Arsenal plotting Sol Campbell-style swoop

Of course, very few direct transfers occur between the north London rivals, with Sol Campbell's move to Highbury causing ruptures, but what a move it proved to be, with the defender going on to lift two Premier League titles and three FA Cups.

That said, Bergvall is very inexperienced, often only featuring as a substitute for Spurs this season, whereas Campbell was 26 when he made the shock move to Arsenal.

Arteta is also well-stocked in the middle of the park, with Christian Norgaard barely getting a look-in this season, given that Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi have held down consistent places in the starting XI, so the Spurs star would probably be an unnecessary signing.
