Arsenal have had a bid worth up to £60m accepted by Crystal Palace for Eberechi Eze as they close on a deal for the Eagles forward.
The England international has been the subject of serious interest from Tottenham Hotspur and an agreement to make the move to Spurs was close before the Gunners made their move.
Arsenal entered the market for reinforcements after losing Kai Havertz to injury.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that an agreement between the clubs has been done and personal terms are now being finalised between Arsenal and Eze. He reported on X: “Crystal Palace accept tonight £60m package from Arsenal for Eberechi Eze, agreement club to club done. Arsenal finalising contract terms with Eze with player keen on joining AFC project.”
Arsenal offered better payment terms for Eze
In an earlier update, Romano had revealed that Arsenal’s £60m offer had “easier add-ons and faster payment terms to try beat Spurs” to the deal.
Meanwhile, David Ornstein of The Athletic reported that Eze wanted a move to the Emirates Stadium. He has also revealed that Eze will play for the Eagles on Thursday night in their Europa Conference League play-off against Fredrikstad at Selhurst Park.
He will undergo his medical with the Gunners after Thursday’s European clash.
It could prove to be a huge moment for Arsenal’s season as they lacked a bit of cutting edge in attack in their opening game of the season at Manchester United. They need to register Eze by 12pm on Friday if they want him to play against Leeds United this weekend.
However, if he misses that deadline - he could make his debut against Liverpool at Anfield on August 31.
What Oliver Glasner said about Eze on Wednesday
Eze, along with Marc Guehi, have both been linked with exits from Palace this summer. Speaking about both players before Arsenal made their move, Glasner said in his press conference on Wednesday: “Many of you were surprised they started against Chelsea. You may be surprised they will start tomorrow because of all the rumours.
“But they are committed to the team, they have a contract here and want to play a crucial part in our success.
“They will play a crucial part for as long as they are here. If they leave, they want to leave as the guys who gave 100 per cent to Crystal Palace.
“This is what they have done since they signed many years ago and this is what we expect from them until the end.”
Eze’s commitment to play for Palace on Thursday show that Glasner’s words are set to ring true. He was training for Palace as normal on Wednesday but if he completes a move to Arsenal, his next appearance in European football will be in the Champions League.
