Tottenham Hotspur have been trying to shop Guglielmo Vicario on the transfer market for months, because even before Antonin Kinsky broke out as a top Premier League goalkeeper to close the difficult 2025/26 season, Spurs were looking to ship off Vicario back to Serie A and use that money to sign an upgrade like James Trafford.
Now, Spurs can use that money on another position, becaue Kinsky has signed a contract extension and been named the new No. 1 after outplaying Vicario considerably, bouncing back from a nightmare Champions League night against Atletico Madrid to take the Italian shot stopper's job following his hernia surgery.
Tottenham have found it difficult to sell Vicario, though. Inter Milan looked like a slam dunk landing spot, but they have signed a better Serie A goalkeeper with a pedigree of saving a relegation side, Ivan Provedel, from Lazio for less than five million euros. Inter were close to signing Vicario during the season but may have pulled out after realizing how poor Vicario must have been.
Guglielmo Vicario is expendable
Juventus, their bitter rivals, have been interested, too, and they are still interested. Aston Villa's World Cup 2022 hero Emiliano Martinez is Juve's dream target and the far bigger name, but it looks like the Bianconeri holding out for the 2026 World Cup starter has been for naught.
New Aston Villa sporting director Damian Vidagany confirmed that Dibu Martinez will not be leaving the club this summer transfer window, via Fabrizio Romano, "Martnez will stay with us, we have no intention of letting him leave this summer. The team needs his dedication and extensive experience, it is a very important element in our project for next season."
It makes sense for Aston Villa to not want to give away a big star and a proven leader on the team with the Champions League still on their plate in 2026/27, and that means Dibu is now 100 percent off the table for the biggest club in Italian football.
But Juventus still have Guglielmo Vicario on their radar, and for Tottenham Hotspur, the news from Aston Villa could not be better for the Bianconeri. They are desperate to get rid of Vicario. Tottenham already signed a true No. 2 who will stay out of Antonin Kinsky's way and even nurture his countryman, inking former Newcastle United veteran Martin Dubravka. Vicario is more than expendable, and the sooner Spurs can sell him for some money, the better.
