Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson is unhappy to be without Tottenham Hotspur’s Dejan Kulusevski for the World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Kosovo next month.
Fotbollskanalen have been speaking to the Dane about a few national team players, and this interview focuses on the forward.
Towards the end of last season, Kulusevski picked up an injury in Tottenham’s defeat to Crystal Palace. On May 14th, Spurs confirmed the 25-year-old had “suffered an injury to his right patella” and undergone surgery.
This meant the former Juventus man to miss Tottenham’s Europa League final win against Manchester United. He hasn’t regained full fitness and Jon Dahl Tomasson says Kulusevski won’t be in contention for Sweden’s upcoming two fixtures.
The former Blackburn Rovers manager has explained he’s in regular contact with the Tottenham player, trying to keep on top of his situation. Sweden’s coach has now provided an update on the attacker’s recovery, and makes it clear it’s going to be a while longer before his return.
“I have had a lot of contact with Kulu. He won’t be available. He is injured and is trying to get back. He is doing well but it is too early,” he said.
“It’s disappointing because we would love to play with Kulu. But football is never perfect.”
Recent claims from the UK have reported the Swede could be out of action until late 2025. The next international break may not be the last one the Tottenham player misses.
