Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur will have to fend off serious interest from Premier League rivals Newcastle United should they be serious about signing Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest this season.

The former Manchester United man enjoyed a head-turning campaign at The City Ground last time out. Elanga picked up six goals and 11 assists for Forest, featuring in every Premier League match of the campaign.

Both Spurs and Arsenal are looking to strengthen their options on the flanks this summer. Thomas Frank’s side could see captain Son Heung-min leave the club with Gunners stars Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli also linked with potential exits.

Arsenal and Tottenham linked with Nottingham Forest winger

TBR Football recently named the two north London clubs as interested suitors in Elanga, with Chelsea and Aston Villa linked. The Sweden international is said to be happy at the City Ground but aware of interest in his services and not opposed to a move.

Newcastle United were also named as a potential destination in that report and now look to be the frontrunners, ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal. The Athletic reported on Tuesday that the Magpies had seen a bid of £45 million rejected by Nottingham Forest.

The outlet claims that Forest have ‘no intention’ of selling their player with Newcastle United potentially having to turn transfer interest towards AFC Bournemouth man Antoine Semenyo or West Ham winger Mohammed Kudus.

Newcastle United bid could force Gunners and Spurs to look for alternatives

Tottenham Hotspur could instead turn attention to Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, if Elanga is off the table. The Sun names the Eagles man as a ‘major target’ for Thomas Frank this summer. It’s added that Spurs have been tracking the player for ‘years’. The England international is believed to have a £60 million release clause in his contract but that there are ‘complex’ conditions in how that fee is paid.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have alternative options with Real Madrid star Rodrygo one player increasingly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Rodrygo will not be a cheap addition and the 24-year-old is also said to be courted by Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. Cadena SER now reports that the Premier League does indeed seem the most likely destination for Rodrygo.

The player’s future under new Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso is still unknown, having been benched against Pachuca recently. Cadena SER claims that, even if Rodrygo is out of favour under Alonso, Real Madrid will demand a fee of €90 million - or £77 million - to green light a transfer exit. Gunners sporting director Andrea Berta is expected to have a tough time negotiating that down.

In other news, Arsenal set to sign 'amazing' player as their next signing after Martin Zubimendi.
