Tottenham are interested in recruiting RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons
Following the arrival of Thomas Frank at the club, Tottenham Hotspur are now all set to make moves in the summer transfer window. While they have already made Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso’s moves permanent, Spurs still seek more quality ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The North Londoners are close to securing the signing of highly-regarded Japanese prospect Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale. After Takai’s acquisition, they are expected to shift the focus towards adding more firepower to their attack.
James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski are unlikely to achieve fitness in time for next month’s pre-season after sustaining serious knee problems before the Europa League final, which will not be ideal for Thomas Frank ahead of preparations for the new campaign. Maddison and Kulusevski are two creative midfielders in the squad, and when they missed games or were not at their best last season, Spurs struggled to unlock well-drilled defences.
Addressing the creativity issue is a must for the Danish tactician. This is perhaps why Spurs have been keeping tabs on RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons.
RB Leipzig are open to selling Xavi Simons this summer for around £60 million. The Dutchman is believed to have informed RB Leipzig that he wishes to leave after they missed out on European qualification on the final day of the 2024/25 season. And, Spurs have now been handed a big boost with the player’s stance over his next destination.
According to an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, Simons is open to making a move to the Premier League amid interest from Tottenham and several other clubs. But RB Leipzig are holding out for a fee in the region of £60million, which is something Spurs must meet to sign the 22-year-old this summer.
On an individual level, the Netherlands international enjoyed a productive campaign. He contributed to 11 goals and eight assists in 33 games across all competitions. Simons can operate in multiple positions across midfield and attack, and with Son Heung-min’s future at N17 up in the air, the Leipzig star could be just the perfect signing for Tottenham.
However, a move for the ex-Paris Saint-Germain man would not be straightforward for Tottenham. This is because Simons’ representatives have also touched base with fellow admirers Newcastle United and Arsenal as he seeks a move away from the Bundesliga club, adds the aforementioned report. Bayern Munich also remain interested in the Dutch attacker, who still has two years remaining on his Leipzig contract.
