Brazil picked up a comprehensive win in a frenetic clash with Senegal, but it was a night to forget for some Premier League stars, with Arsenal and Tottenham suffering big injury blows
Brazil secured a comfortable victory in a tumultuous and spirited match against Senegal.
The game saw numerous Premier League players take part, with Manchester United and Chelsea fans likely pleased with some of their stars' performances, while Arsenal and Tottenham supporters may have reasons to worry. Matheus Cunha nearly opened the scoring for Brazil in the first half when Bruno Guimaraes' cross found the United striker, who headed onto the bar.
However, it was Chelsea's Estevao who would soon put them ahead, expertly dispatching the ball that fell to him on the right. Casemiro then extended the lead after a free kick was sent to the back post, which he skilfully curled off the far right post and into the net.
Tottenham fans will be concerned that Pape Matar Sarr had to be substituted due to an injury just after half-time. Arsenal's Gabriel also had to be replaced, seemingly due to a problem with his right groin, judging by how the Brazilian was clutching his upper right leg. Here's Football London's ratings.
Brazil's Premier League stars
Gabriel Magalhaes (Arsenal)
Made a crucial tackle early in the game on the edge of the box to initiate a counterattack, leading to Matheus Cunha hitting the post.
He made an excellent pre-emptive clearance as a cross came in to prevent a Senegal opportunity. He was substituted in the second half due to a groin issue. 7.
Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle)
Twice set up Cunha in the opening moments just for the United man to hit the frame of the goal. Broke forward without eschewing his defensive duties. A complete performance by a complete player. 8.
Casemiro (Manchester United)
Screened his defenders well, calm in possession and took his goal beautifully. 8.
Pape Matar Sarr (Tottenham)
He had a quiet first half but looked to be finding his rhythm midway through the game, only to have his progress halted by Gabriel. In a worrying development for Spurs ahead of the North London Derby, he had to be substituted just after half-time following a collision with Cunha. 6.
Estevao (Chelsea)
He was a standout, netting his fourth goal for the Selecao. Despite the defence's efforts, the ball found its way to Estevao who expertly curled a left-footed strike around Edouard Mendy. He was a joy to watch throughout the match and made a strong case to Enzo Maresca for a regular spot on Chelsea's right wing. 8.
Matheus Cunha (Manchester United)
Will wonder how he came away without a goal. Got himself in good positions but narrowly missed two massive chances in the opening 15 minutes. 6.
Joao Pedro (Chelsea)
The striker from Chelsea entered the fray in the second half as a forward. However, he struggled to make an impact due to a lack of service and ended up frustrated. 5.
Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea)
Currently on loan at Bayern Munich from Chelsea, he nearly scored after pressing Ederson shortly after coming on, but Everton's Iliman Ndiaye scuffed the rebound onto the post.
Apart from that, he saw little action due to limited service. 6.
Lucas Paqueta (West Ham)
Entered the game in the 83rd minute. No time to make any real impact. N/A.
Richarlison (Tottenham)
Did not play. N/A.
Andrey Santos (Chelsea)
Didn't get a chance to play, remaining an unused substitute. N/A.
