‘It’s now coming out’ – Game-changing Tottenham details from behind the scenes
Tottenham Hotspur could have saved millions after it was revealed the club do have salary reduction clauses in their contracts.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after it was initially reported that the club did not have such clauses in place.
The wages of Spurs’ players will drop by around 50% if they are relegated from the Premier League this season, with Igor Tudors’ side currently just a point above the drop zone.
Wage decreases will mitigate the financial blow for Spurs if they suffer relegation amid a major decrease in revenue if the club drop down to the Championship.

Tottenham stars ‘won’t accept’ wage cut
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes a lot of Spurs’ players would leave if they have their salaries cut.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the move is “absolutely crucial” for the club.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think a few weeks ago, the rumour was that they didn’t have those clauses in place, and it’s now coming out they do have.
“Now, it’s absolutely crucial. Having managed Villa when they went down right away from the Premier League, it was crucial that those wage deals were in place.
“You’ve got to get players down, and you also know that a lot of those players won’t accept being down to that 50% level, so they’ll want to move.”
Tottenham chief faces sack
Sources have told Football Insider that Spurs could sack sporting director Johan Lange following the club’s poor campaign.
Spurs chiefs are facing scrutiny over whether they should keep their roles in the future, regardless of whether the club remains in the Premier League.
Lange was a key part of Spurs appointing both Thomas Frank and Tudor, with the latter already under threat of the sack after only three games in charge.
