Chelsea are targeting a return to the Champions League for next season and will know that their transfer activity this summer could depend on where they finish come the end of the campaign.
With seven Premier League matches left to play in addition to an upcoming FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale, the Blues have much left to play for and will look to end the season in style under Liam Rosenior. Should they fail to reach the top five, the pressure will ramp up this summer.
Meanwhile, at Tottenham Hotspur, surviving relegation is the only remaining target and it is an essential one. Spurs are just a single point and place above the drop zone and with London rivals West Ham United battling, the Lilywhites will need to up their game in order to avoid a headline relegation to the Championship.
Chelsea pursuit ‘confirmed’ for Tottenham wonderkid
According to reports by Caught Offside, Chelsea are interested in a move for Tottenham wonderkid Luka Vuskovic amid growing interest across Europe.
The 19-year-old centre-back has spent the season out on loan at Hamburg in the Bundesliga and has seen his profile skyrocket, despite having never played a game for the Spurs first team. The Lilywhites may face a tough task keeping hold of the Croatian this summer, with the defender having already forced his way into the senior international set-up and possibly primed to face England in the World Cup this summer.
Caught Offside’s report states that sources have ‘confirmed’ Chelsea’s pursuit of Vuskovic, though there is likely to be major competition from the likes of Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Barcelona. Chelsea’s interest is said to be the ‘strongest’ at present, which could give them the edge if Spurs reluctantly decide to sell ahead of next season.
However, Spurs are ‘not at all keen’ to let the 2007-born wonderkid go, seeing him as a key part of their long-term project, and his market value may already be as high as €100million (£86m) as European giants circle. Spurs sources reportedly claim that they have not yet been approached for the player, but that could be set to change soon.
Chelsea have been known to invest big money in ‘elite’ talents such as Vuskovic under the ownership of BlueCo. A source told Caught Offside on their interest: “It’s true that Chelsea are interested. They’ve done their homework on him and he’s high up on their list as they look for a new centre-back.”
