The Argentine was back with his Tottenham team-mates on Sunday after a week in which there was plenty of speculation about his whereabouts
Tottenham captain Cristian Romero has spoken on social media for the first time since all the fuss surrounding his whereabouts this week but it was probably not the post Spurs supporters were looking for.
Romero had drawn criticism from fans and pundits when it appeared that his injury rehabilitation in Argentina would involve him missing Tottenham's crucial final day game against Everton on Sunday and instead reports in his homeland claimed the 28-year-old was going to be in attendance at his boyhood club Belgrano's Primera Division final against River Plate on the same day.
Romero's agent Ciro Palermo had told football.london though: "Any suggestion that the trip was made for the purpose of attending football matches is entirely inaccurate. More than that, it is a completely fabricated narrative being circulated by people who are unaware of the facts and have no knowledge of the rehabilitation plan that has been in place for weeks.
"Cristian's focus is, and has always been, on recovering as strongly as possible, preparing for the World Cup, and supporting Tottenham Hotspur in every way he can. His commitment to the club, his team-mates and the supporters has been evident throughout his time at Tottenham and remains unchanged."

That ultimately was the case as Romero flew back to London and was involved on the sidelines with Roberto De Zerbi and the players during their 1-0 win against Everton which sealed their Premier League status for next season. The skipper could be seen wildly celebrating Joao Palhinha's match-winning goal in the middle of the group of Spurs delighted players after the Portuguese ran to the dugout.
While Romero is yet to post an end of season message to the Tottenham fans or share images from the game, on Monday he did post his first football-related words in a little while with an Instagram story directed at his first club Belgrano.
"Congratulations champions @clubaleticobelgrano. More than deserved," he posted to the Argentinean side after their 3-2 victory against River Plate.
All eyes are now on what comes next for Romero, who is expected to be fit for his country at the World Cup next month, with the centre-back's future at Spurs once again the subject of plenty of speculation.
