Cristian Romero is preparing for Argentina's World Cup quarter-final with Switzerland

Cristian Romero has ignored Thibaut Courtois after the Belgium goalkeeper claimed either France or Spain will win the World Cup.

The two European heavyweights meet in a mouthwatering semi-final showdown on Tuesday. France overcame Morocco in their quarter-final while Arsenal star Mikel Merino scored a late winner to see Spain beat Courtois' Belgium in the last-eight.

The Real Madrid goalkeeper claimed that the 2026 World Cup champion will come from the France vs Spain semi-final.

But Romero, who is preparing for Argentina's quarter-final with Switzerland in the early hours of Sunday morning, doesn't care what Courtois thinks and is only focusing on his country's attempt to retain their World Cup crown.

He told TyC Sports: "We don't listen to what a player thinks."

He added: "We are focused on tomorrow. It's going to be tough, and we don't listen to what a single player thinks. Everyone has their own perspective, their way of thinking, but we are focused on tomorrow."

Romero has played a role in Argentina's memorable World Cup campaign, and scored their first goal in the 3-2 comeback win over Egypt last time out.

The Spurs captain was delighted to get on the scoresheet but knows they must defend better if they are to have any chance of lifting the trophy again.

He added: "It's always nice to score, but our job is to keep a clean sheet. I'm happy if I can contribute in attack, but our primary duty is to defend.

"We are doing well, but we have to improve because they scored four goals against us in the last two matches, and it bothers us to concede. However, we are always at the service of the team and whatever the coach decides. Everyone is doing well.

"Every match is proving to be tough for us; tomorrow will be complicated. Switzerland didn't make it easy for Colombia and dominated them. It’s going to be a great match; they have important players."
