"I'm really struggling to understand why Tottenham fans are so disgruntled and upset," said former Premier League midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast.
Spurs' narrow win at Crystal Palace on Sunday means they are just five points behind fifth place Chelsea in a congested top half of the table.
"They are still in a very good position with a lot of football left," said Reo-Coker. "If given time, Thomas Fran will get it right and make Tottenham a real powerhouse in the Premier League.
"It is going to take time and the reality is that some of these Spurs players are not as good as they think they are."
One player who Reo-Coker does rate however is teenager Archie Gray, whose first senior goal ensured Tottenham bounced back at Selhurst Park from consecutive Premier League defeats.
"I am a big fan of Gray," added Reo-Coker. "He is a good player, versatile and still finding his feet at Tottenham.
"He has had a good run of games so he has earned the right to stay in the team.
"He is a young player still learning his trade so to score his first goal for the club is probably a moment he will never forget."
Gray's winner features on Monday's back pages, with the Mirror and Daily Express highlighting the importance of the 19-year-old's goal for his manager, given the pressure he has been under in recent weeks.
