Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly more and more tempted to green light a January transfer exit for winger Brennan Johnson amid interest from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.
The 24-year-old has only played 90 minutes in the top flight twice this season and was afforded just 10 minutes on the pitch as Spurs were thrashed 3-0 by Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Johnson signed for the club from Forest in 2023 for £48 million.
The forward has made 105 appearances for the club, scoring 27 goals, but has never truly cemented a role in the starting XI. The Standard rated the sub a 4/10 for his cameo against Nottingham Forest. The outlet wrote: “Did nothing after coming on against his former club.”
Tottenham Hotspur could green light Crystal Palace transfer
With Spurs expected to bring in new faces in the New Year, Johnson could be one of the names allowed to leave in order to make space. Johnson is contracted until 2028 but TeamTALK report that the club hold a ‘temptation to sell’.
It’s added that Johnson is a ‘valued member of the squad’ but that may not be enough to stop the club choosing to generate some cash and free up space on the wage bill. Crystal Palace are touted as potential suitors in the Welsh international.
Oliver Glasner is desperate for greater strength in depth at Selhurst Park and Johnson would come with bags of top flight experience. The report adds that two other Premier League clubs have also made ‘informal contact’ over a potential deal.
It’s thought that Tottenham Hotspur would want £50 million to green light an exit for Johnson but that a slightly lower offer with the right conditions could consider the club to sell.
Brennan Johnson linked with Spurs exit
Should Johnson leave, that could free up potential for a Tottenham Hotspur swoop for AFC Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo, who has been regularly linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Johnson had four goals across all competitions for Spurs so far this season but only two of those have come in the Premier League. The forward netted in both of his side’s opening two fixtures but has been on a barren run since.
Speaking ahead of the Premier League season, Johnson had opened up on his close relationship with Frank but that was before his minutes had dwindled. During pre-season, he said: “He likes to tell me bits of advice on how I can become better and little things to help me.
“I’m a right-footed player who played on the right a lot last season. You know he is both-footed. He helped me with few techniques on how to improve my left foot, be better at that.
“He is an amazing character and personality. A world-class player. I don’t think there would be anybody who would say that they wouldn’t want to play with him because of how much of an amazing player and personality he is.”
