Crystal Palace are reported to have reached an agreement with Ligue 1 outfit Angers over the transfer of striker Sidiki Cherif, beating competition from across Europe to secure the deal.
Oliver Glasner’s side have hit somewhat of a mid-season slump with the number of games from Premier League, Carabao Cup, Conference League and FA Cup action catching up with the London outfit’s thin squad.
A 2-1 defeat to Macclesfield on Saturday was the latest blow for Crystal Palace, who are looking to add bodies to the squad this window. Brennan Johnson has already arrived from Spurs and now the talented Cherif is set to join too.
Crystal Palace agree deal for Sidiki Cherif
Crystal Palace have been linked with the player in recent weeks. The 19-year-old had also been touted as a potential purchase for Newcastle United, Sunderland and Championship side Wrexham earlier this season.
OneFootball claim that AC Milan, Borussia Monchengladbach, Hamburg, and VfB Stuttgart all also targeted Cherif but that the striker was keen on a move to the Premier League. A €25 million fee is believed to have been agreed.
Providing the latest on the deal, Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg took to social media platform X on Wednesday. He wrote: “Sidiki #Cherif is on the verge of joining Crystal Palace. An agreement has been reached with the 19 y/o talented striker after @FabriceHawkins. The next step is to finalise the details with Angers.”
Paris FC set for renewed Tottenham Hotspur interest
OneFootball claimed that Paris FC were the last side in the race for Cherif alongside Crystal Palace. The French outfit stood down when realising the player had his heart set on the UK.
Paris FC remain in the market for a forward and the deal agreed between Crystal Palace and Angers is set to intensify interest in Tottenham Hotspur man Mathys Tel. Plettenberg had reported earlier this week that Paris FC were ‘working on’ a deal for Tel, who is believed to be frustrated by a lack of playing time in North London.
Spurs are currently said to be blocking all enquiries for Tel, who made his loan move to the club from Bayern Munich permanent for £30 million last summer. Tel has started the last two Premier League matches but had previously gone 11 matches without a place in the starting XI.
