Dominic Solanke: Tottenham could be forced to accept new offer as Newcastle plot move

Tottenham Hotspur could be forced to accept offers for Dominic Solanke after what has been a miserable season in North London, sources have told Football Insider.

With Spurs currently just one point above the relegation zone, the club recognise that dropping down to the Championship would mean major player sales this summer.

However, even if they remain in the Premier League, they could be forced to sell a number of key players who have ambitions of playing European football.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Solanke could be among the players seeking a move away amid growing interest.

Spurs are reluctant to lose the England international despite his injury struggles this season, but they could be forced to let him go ahead of a difficult transfer window for Tottenham.

Tottenham could be forced to cash in on Dominic Solanke

Football Insider revealed on 29 March that Tottenham have given Solanke a £50million price tag ahead of the summer transfer window to ward off potential suitors.

The 28-year-old remains an important part of Spurs’ plans for the long-term future, and hope his lofty asking price will deter clubs from making moves.

However, should they suffer relegation or if the player decides he wants to move on, they may have no choice but to let him go.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Solanke is part of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad where he’ll be hoping he can impress and book a ticket for the World Cup.

“For Tottenham, he’s under contract until 2030, so they’re under no real massive pressure to sell him under a long-term contract.

“Obviously if they do suffer the worst fate and go down obviously they might be forced to cash in on some of their players.

“Some of those players might not be too keen to be playing in the Championship either so obviously he could be available then in the summer if Spurs are relegated.

“They’re still very reluctant to sell him, Tottenham, but they might be left with no choice if any clubs come in for him and that is the case.”

Newcastle United join race to sign Solanke

Speculation about Solanke’s future at Tottenham comes amid interest from a number of Premier League rivals looking to capitalise on Spurs’ precarious situation.

Football Insider revealed on 10 March that Newcastle are interested in signing Solanke should he become available, as they plan to sign a new striker.

The Tottenham forward has emerged on a long list of potential additions for Eddie Howe’s side as they have been left frustrated by their current options.

Both Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade arrived at St James’ Park last summer as part of their efforts to replace Alexander Isak, but have failed to meet expectations.

As a result, Howe has set his sights on a number of new targets including Solanke, with the addition of a new striker becoming a priority for the Magpies.
