Jamie Donley scored his first goal for new loan club Oxford United on Wednesday night to hand them a vital 1-0 home victory against Blackburn Rovers.
The attacking midfielder converted in the 34th minute at the Kassam Stadium after Myles Peart-Harris had a header saved – and it proved to be the only goal in what was a key game for both sides near the foot of the Championship table.
The result, Oxford’s third consecutive win, saw them move level with Leicester City, who occupy the final position above the drop zone. The U’s remain below them on goal difference, though, while Blackburn are just a point above the bottom three.
Jamie’s goal was his first of the season in what was his fourth league appearance for Oxford – and sixth in all competitions – since joining them on loan in January. He’d spent the first half of the campaign at Stoke City.
He started and completed 87 minutes, with fellow Spurs loanee Will Lankshear also in the starting line-up – he was withdrawn on 73 minutes.
Will was on target on Friday, scoring Oxford’s second goal in their 3-1 win at Alfie Devine’s Preston North End – his ninth goal of the season in all competitions. Will and Jamie, previously team-mates in our Under-18s and Under-21s, also started that game together and were both substituted, with attacking midfielder Alfie completing the full 90 for the hosts.
