It has been a whirlwind few weeks for Eveliina Summanen.
Having joined us in January, 2022, as a 23-year-old at the time, Eve reached a century of appearances for the Club in our clash with West Ham United earlier this month and has now put pen to paper on a new, long-term deal.
Becoming a fans’ favourite over the years with her powerhouse displays in midfield, alongside scoring some beauties in her four seasons to date, the Finland international has been a crucial part of our journey in the Women’s Super League in the last couple of years.
Now, as we sit fifth in the current standings ahead of the final stretch of the 2025/26 campaign, our number 25 says the growth in the squad this season has made her particularly more excited to commit her future here.
“I'm really excited to have signed a new contract with the Club,” she told us, reflecting on the new deal. “I'm happy here. I found my place at Spurs, and I think it was just natural to keep going on that journey.
“The time has gone really, really quickly, but I've learned a lot. I think it's been an eventful journey so far, but it feels like home here and it's obviously important as a player to feel like you can be yourself in the Club and in the daily environment.
“The last few months under Martin [Ho] we've taken good steps in the right direction. I think we have a good potential in the group and that's why I'm excited also to stay here, to see what we can build on and, hopefully, achieve big things.”
Asked about hitting 100 appearances for the Club, she added: “That’s big. You can dream about it, but you don't think that it's maybe going to happen.
“I mean, like I said, the time has gone really quickly and, when it happened, I was so surprised, but also proud and honoured to be able to achieve that and also wear that jersey.”
A consistent performer in our midfield since making the move to north London midway through 2021/22 campaign, she has enjoyed some memorable moments in Lilywhite, which include our historic run to the FA Cup Final in 2024 plus her 40-yard stunner against Aston Villa last term.
With chants of her name regularly sang around the stands of Brisbane Road and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Eve spoke about the ‘massive’ impact our Lilywhite fanbase has made on her since she first wore the shirt.
“Massive is the first word that comes to my mind,” she added. “The support we get just doesn't go unnoticed, all of us are really grateful to see the fans and, obviously, to have that contact with them as well.
“I'm really, really grateful for the support that we've got. It's always a special day when we get to play at the [Tottenham Hotspur] Stadium and we get to have our fans behind us. Hopefully, we can have as many as possible fans there supporting us but, equally, fans supporting from home, different countries, they're important as well.”
With a long-term contract signed and sealed, focus quickly returns to the remainder of the campaign and, with us left to compete in the WSL and FA Cup this term, Eve is keen to keep building on the strong season to date.
“First is to finish the season on high, continuing what we've been doing and building on what we've been achieving this season,” the midfielder told us.
“I think there's still a lot of steps to take during this season and that's how I work a little bit myself as well, that I take one thing at a time and then we look at what's the future.
“I think there's been a talk about ambition and, now, we want to reach those things that we've been talking about.”
