Newcastle United are keen on one of Tottenham Hotspur’s top attacking targets this summer.
Thomas Frank’s team haven’t been particularly active following their appointment of him as head coach, with Mathys Tel the only deal they have completed so far.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have seen a bid for Joao Pedro, and their move for James Trafford is seen as ‘difficult’, as reported by TBR Football.
Both clubs are now working on various targets, and they seem to have stumbled upon the same option, with Newcastle having just expressed an interest.
Tottenham can’t allow Xavi Simons to join Newcastle
Tottenham Hotspur must ensure that Xavi Simons is not allowed to join Newcastle United this summer, and the Lilywhites must rival any offer the Tyneside club make.
Newcastle are keen on Simons, according to Give Me Sport, with RB Leipzig now open to selling the attacker for around £60 million.
The Bundesliga club missed out on European football altogether last term, and therefore, the Dutch international is keen to leave.
Simons wants a Premier League move, and several clubs from England, including Newcastle, have been made aware of his situation.
Tottenham have asked about signing Simons, and now, they must follow up on that interest in case Howe’s side tries to steal a march on them.
The 22-year-old could be the perfect option for the North London club, given his versatility to play in several different roles in attack.
Son Heung-min could leave Tottenham this summer, and Simons, who’s been dubbed a ‘superstar’, may just be the perfect successor for the club’s legendary captain.
Xavi Simons’ stats compare to Eberechi Eze
Tottenham are also keen on Eberechi Eze, who is a very similar profile to the Dutch midfielder, being able to operate on the wing and also centrally.
Eze is very keen to join Tottenham, although Arsenal have entered the race to sign the Crystal Palace forward, which could complicate things.
Eze has a £60m release clause at Selhurst Park, so Spurs might find it easier to negotiate a deal with Leipzig for Simons.
In terms of numbers last season, Simons outscored Eze in terms of league goals, having played nine fewer matches.
Although it is very close between the pair, and both players would be great options for the Lilywhites, should they move for either.
