Fabrizio Romano has delivered a Tottenham transfer update that tells supporters exactly where the club’s summer is heading next.
Tottenham’s window has moved at a pace few expected after last season’s brush with relegation. Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka arrived on free transfers, while Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke joined in deals worth a combined £237m.
Attention has now turned to the attack, with the club closing in on a £65m winger signing that would take the summer count to seven. But one question has hung over the pursuit all week: what exactly is the hold-up?

Romano reveals what Tottenham are waiting for
According to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, the Savinho deal is alive and remains Tottenham’s priority — but Manchester City hold the timing. “On Tottenham in terms of incomings, I stand by my news,” Romano said. “Tottenham want Savinho. Tottenham will go for Savinho. There are negotiations ongoing club to club, Tottenham and Manchester City.”
Romano added that the player’s mind is made up: “Savinho is very keen on a move to Tottenham. Savinho was already prepared to go to Tottenham one year ago, they wanted him in summer 2025.”
The sticking point sits in Manchester. “Then in order to get the green light for the move, Man City would need a replacement for Savinho, that’s the point,” Romano explained. “But Tottenham are working on the Savinho deal… This remains the priority. This remains the topic and this remains the deal.”
Who leaves to make room?
Romano also pointed to the exit door. Lucas Bergvall, he reported, “is expected to leave the club this summer”, with the Swede telling Spurs he wants regular football after the arrivals of Tonali and Fernandes. “For Bergvall, bid from Nottingham Forest and talks with Newcastle, both clubs are working for Lucas Bergvall,” Romano said, noting Forest’s proposal is the highest financially while Newcastle offer “a very competitive project”.
