Tottenham are open to listening to offers for defender.

One area that contributed heavily to Tottenham Hotspur’s struggles this past season was a defence sorely lacking consistency and leadership.

The dip in the form of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven affected Spurs’ defensive steel. Romero’s season was prematurely ended by a knee injury, which led to Kevin Danso deputising for the final six games and, alongside Van de Ven, playing a key role in keeping Tottenham safe in the Premier League.

Under Roberto De Zerbi, Radu Dragusin clocked just two minutes. Overall, it was a tough season for the 24-year-old, who spent more than nine months on the sidelines following an ACL injury. After returning to action late December, the Romanian international could muster only 11 outings across all competitions.

Fiorentina revive their interest in Radu Dragusin

Radu Dragusin was keen to leave Spurs during the January transfer window, but an injury crisis saw the club chiefs block a potential return to Serie A. The Tottenham centre-back was wanted by Fiorentina, who viewed him as an option to strengthen their porous backline. While a move didn’t materialise then, the Serie A club’s interest does not seem to have faded.

According to La Nazione (h/t Firenze Viola), Fiorentina sporting director Fabio Paratici is targeting a move for Dragusin this summer. The Italian official’s relationship with Spurs gives Fiorentina a natural advantage in any approach for the central defender.

Paratici knows Dragusin from the pair’s shared time at Tottenham, and perhaps is confident about the Romanian international becoming a massive player for La Viola if he were to find some sense of confidence again. And that’s exactly why he has been pushing for a transfer.

Tottenham are ready to cash in on Dragusin this summer, valuing him between €20 million and €25 million. The report adds that the Premier League side’s asking price remains a significant hurdle for Fiorentina to overcome if they are to land the Bucharest-born star.

Dragusin should leave Tottenham

Dragusin found game time hard to come by after recovering from an ACL injury, and things are only going to get difficult next term due to internal competition. Spurs have reached a verbal agreement with Marcos Senesi, who is set to arrive on a free transfer from Bournemouth. De Zerbi is also keen on reuniting with Brighton and Hove Albion star Jan Paul van Hecke. Tottenham are preparing a second offer for Van Hecke after seeing their opening bid rejected by Brighton.
