The visit of Crystal Palace to N17 on Thursday night (8pm UK) brings back recent memories of a key moment in our recent history - the first match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 3 April, 2019.

That was 113 years after Palace's first visit to the Lane in the Southern League back in October, 1906 and just short of short of 50 years after we hosted the Eagles for the first time in the Football League - Boxing Day, 1969.

As we prepare to meet Palace again - here are a few firsts and lasts against the team from Selhurst Park...

Notable firsts in N17

Palace were formed in September, 1905 and we met for the first time in the Southern League at the Lane on 6 October, 1906, a 3-0 win thanks to a goals from James Reid (2) and Joe Walton. We were promoted into the Football League in 1908/09 and had to wait until Boxing Day, 1969 to meet Palace again in league action - and this had another first...

Our first goals of the Premier League era

It's fair to say we made a less than auspicious start to the first Premier League campaign of 1992/93. We kicked-off football's new dawn with a goalless draw at Southampton on 15 August, 1992 and followed up with a 2-0 loss at home to Coventry. We registered our first Premier League goals on 22 August in a 2-2 draw against Palace with Gordon Durie and Steve Sedgley on target. Without a win in our first five, we finally recorded our first Premier League win against Sheffield United on 2 September - where Teddy Sheringham bagged his first Spurs goal. We ended up eighth.

First game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

An emotional night as we stepped back into N17 after a short hiatus at Wembley between the Lane's Finale in May, 2017 and this first senior game at the new stadium on 3 April, 2019. Heung-Min Son carved his name in club history by scoring our first goal at the world-class venue with Christian Eriksen wrapping up a 2-0 win. Six days later we were back and more history for Sonny with the first Champions League goal at the stadium in a memorable 1-0 win against City in the quarter-final, first leg on our way to the final.

A huge last - Greavsie's last game

All-time great Jimmy Greaves made his last appearance in a Spurs shirt against Palace on 28 January, 1970. Signed from AC Milan in December, 1961, Greavsie set a goalscoring record in Lilywhite that few believed was possible to get near - that's the gravity of Harry Kane's achievement when he surpassed Greavsie's 266 and made it to 280 goals before departing for Bayern Munich in 2023. To this day, anyone who watched him will say Greavsie is the best finisher the game has ever seen - and his goals helped us win the FA Cup in 1962, European Cup Winners Cup in 1963 - he scored in both finals - and the FA Cup again in 1967.

Two games, two days...

We faced Palace in the Premier League on 27 December, 1994 - just 24 hours after both teams had turned out on Boxing Day. We beat Norwich 2-0 at Carrow Road while Palace were held 0-0 by QPR at Selhurst Park. Maybe it was no surprise that this game ended goalless as well at the Lane. This was the last time that our players were called upon to play league games on consecutive days, a regular occurrence over the Christmas and Easter holiday periods in years gone by.
