Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur players had to be separated at the full time whistle as a brawl errupted in their FA Cup third round clash

There were unsavoury scenes at the full-time whistle following Aston Villa's 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup third round tie. Players from both teams clashed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Morgan Rogers and Joao Palhinha involved at the beginning of the incident.

Several players from both teams piled in as things threatened to escalate right in front of the Villa fans. Things would eventually calm down as the away side went over to celebrate with their travelling support.

Spurs fans, on the other hand, booed their side off the field after another disappointing night under Thomas Frank, with pressure beginning to mount on the head coach.

The defeat makes it just one win in the last seven games for Tottenham Hotspur in all competitions, with Unai Emery's side racing to a 2-0 lead at the half-time interval.

Emi Buendia scored the opening goal of the game for Villa, before Rogers added a second just before the half-time break.

Spurs did manage to grab a goal back in the second, with Wilson Odobert halving the deficit, but the hosts were unable to find the all-important equaliser.

When the final whistle blew, Rogers and Palhinha clashed in front of the travelling Villa fans, who jeered as the two men were separated by Micky van de Ven.

Rogers was visibly unhappy with his Portuguese opponent, with Palhina held back by his own teammates as the England international looked to confront him.

The incident was eventually calmed down and the two players separated after coaching staff rushed onto the field to defuse the brawl.

It was yet another day for Frank to forget as Spurs boss, with his side struggling to get results and taunts from the travelling Villa fans.

Frank was spotted drinking from an Arsenal coffee cup ahead of the defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League in midweek.

Speaking about the incident after the defeat at the Vitality Stadium, Frank said: "I think it's fair to say that we're not winning every single football match so it would be absolutely, completely stupid of me to take a cup with Arsenal.

"Is there anyone thinking I've done that? All the staff has done it. "They've been in the changing room, the game before us.

"It's normal to take a cup, give me an espresso, I do that before every game. I think actually it's a little bit sad in football that I need to be asked a question about that.

"I think we're definitely going in the wrong direction if we need to worry about me having a cup with another logo of another club, of course I'll never do that. That's extremely stupid."

Villa fans taunted the under-pressure Spurs boss with chants of "Thomas Frank is an Arsenal fan," followed by "You're getting sacked in the morning."
