Archie Gray scored a key goal as England strengthened their position in UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifying with a 4-1 win against Moldova at Norwich City's Carrow Road on Tuesday night.

It was a fine strike as well - Archie striding onto the ball 16 yards and planting a fierce drive into the roof of the net. That put the Young Lions back in front on 61 minutes and further goals from Ethan Nwaneri and Romain Esse saw them home.

Archie was substituted on 78 minutes. Ashley Phillips also started and completed the full match. England top Group D by three points from Slovakia - group winners go to the finals in Albania/Serbia next summer.

Elsewhere in UEFA U21 qualifying, James Wilson came off the bench after 67 minutes of Scotland's 3-0 loss at Portugal in Group B, while goalkeeper Aaron Maguire an unused substitute as Republic of Ireland beat Kazakhstan 1-0 in Group D.

Oliver Boast completed a full shift as England Under-17s beat Estonia 2-0 in UEFA U17 Championship qualifying (League B, Group B1) - Oscar Sandiford was a late substitute in Croatia. However, England finished second in the group and therefore haven't reached the finals.

George Feeney also played a full shift as Northern Ireland beat Kazakhstan 1-0 in Group 5 of UEFA Under-19 qualifying in Romania. Malachi Hardy was an unused substitute as England Under-18s advanced to the next round of the new 2027 UEFA Under-19 Euro series by beating Croatia 2-0.
