Tottenham Hotspur defender Luka Vuskovic is set to complete a loan switch to Bundesliga outfit HSV Hamburg this season as he looks to progress his career, despite a strong pre-season under Thomas Frank in north London.
The 18-year-old agreed a deal to join Tottenham Hotspur from Hajduk Split in September 2023 with the Premier League club agreeing to pay £12 million for the hot prospect, who was just 16 years old at the time. However, Vuskovic remained on the books at Split and was sent on loan to Radomiak and Westerlo before finally arriving at Spurs this summer.
There is a lot of excitement around the defender’s potential and that was clear to see in the pre-season outings he was handed this summer. Vuskovic looked at ease as part of the Tottenham Hotspur first team and supporters had hoped to see the player given a chance this season.
Luka Vuskovic set for Bundesliga loan
Reports had suggested that, although a great admirer of the youngster, Frank did not see Vuskovic as ready for the Premier League with a loan move touted. Several clubs across Europe had been touted as potential suitors and it now appears that the player has found his destination.
Taking to social media platform X on Wednesday, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano wrote: “EXCL: HSV Hamburg get green light from Tottenham for Luka Vusković to join the club on loan. No buy option, straight loan as seen as key part of future project at #THFC and huge talent.”
Hamburg sit 11th in the Bundesliga after their first outing of the league season, which was a 0-0 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Vuskovic’s deal should be completed in time to allow the player to face Bayern Munich on September 13.
Tottenham star becomes ‘fan favourite’ with pre-season outing
Vuskovic became a fan favourite in rapid time this summer thanks to his superb 45 minutes in the 2-0 win over Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium last month. LondonWorld gave the defender a 10/10 score for his second half showing in that match. We wrote: “How about that? The giant provided the assist for Lankshear and then scored one himself with a striker’s finish. Some fantastic work defensively too, including a goal-saving block. That’s how you announce yourself. A beast in the making.”
Speaking about his first weeks at the club following that win, the defender said: “Everything is perfect. The club is behind me. The players, the staff, the coach, everyone is helping me a lot and I’m really happy.”
Vuskovic is yet to make his competitive debut for Spurs but had been in the matchday squad for both Premier League matches against Burnley and Manchester City, as well as for the UEFA Super Cup defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
In other news, Tottenham should consider proven Champions League attacker who is available for just £45m.
