Guglielmo Vicario feels we can take the positives from our battling performance against Liverpool into forthcoming London derbies against Palace and Brentford over the Christmas and New Year period.

Down to 10 men after 33 minutes, then 2-0 down after 66, Richarlison’s response with seven minutes left injected a belief throughout Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that we could turn the game around.

We then lost Cuti Romero to a second yellow card, but our nine men pushed for an equaliser, and it was Allison making saves in added time, not Vic – the Liverpool goalkeeper twice denying Pedro Porro.

“I think we have to be very proud of ourselves, especially the way we handled it in the second half,” reflected Vic. “We showed great character, great effort and mentality to get back into the game.

“The feeling I think from everyone in the stadium was that we could have easily overturned this result, so we have to take home some good notes in terms of mentality and character and all these kinds of things.

“So, a lot of positives from this game - disappointment, of course, to have lost a game of football, but I think with a little bit more luck in some situations, we could have been now speaking about a different game and different result.”

Now the players are preparing for a derby double-header on the road – Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday (4.30pm UK) followed by Thomas Frank’s return to Brentford on Ney Year’s Day (8pm UK).

Vic added: “Now, we're going to have a long week in which we can push, we can train hard to get ready for Palace. We need to take the positives into the next match. It's some fuel that has to feed us. This is the most important bit.

“So, I think in terms of mood, of course, we are disappointed because of the result, but we know that we deserved more because we showed on the pitch and it was there. I'm sure that the fans have felt this inside the stadium. So, a lot of good things. Now, a big week ahead before we go to Palace away and we're going to be ready. “
