Rayan has emerged as one of the brightest young attackers in Brazil, with Tottenham among the clubs keeping a close watch. The Vasco da Gama striker has combined goals, versatility and maturity to become a standout at just 19.

The youngster is enjoying his breakout campaign in 2025, establishing himself as a key player under manager Fernando Diniz. He has already featured in 42 matches across competitions, totalling over 3,200 minutes. In that time, he has scored 12 goals and added one assist.

His productivity has been spread across tournaments. Seven goals in the league, four in the Copa do Brasil and one in the Copa Sudamericana. Those numbers underline both his importance to Vasco and his ability to perform in different contexts.

Diniz has been emphatic about the Tottenham target’s qualities, describing him as “a complete forward”. As recently covered by ESPN Brazil, he was emphatic when speaking about the young forward: “I don’t know exactly how much he is worth, but certainly today it’s at least three times more than last year.”

“Enormous game changing ability”

The coach highlighted that Rayan is tall, fast, left-footed, can shoot from distance, has improved his heading and is disciplined enough to track back and defend. “Rayan is a player with enormous game-changing ability, one of the biggest in the country. He is only 19, still learning to understand his own potential. There is a long road ahead, but he is a rare, very rare player”, Diniz said.

That versatility and quality on the ball allows him to play as a winger, a false nine or a centre-forward. His manager is convinced he already shows the maturity to push for a place in the Brazil squad, which would help a Tottenham move.

Standing 1.85m, Rayan combines physical presence with speed and a direct approach. He is explosive in transitions, comfortable running at defenders, and aggressive in pressing when out of possession.

His ability to attack space and his determination to contribute defensively make him a profile suited to the demands of European football.

Despite that progress, his situation at Vasco has been complicated by the club’s financial circumstances. European interest has grown steadily, with Porto showing concrete intent and Tottenham listed among those monitoring him closely.

Vasco renewed his contract until 2026 and set a release clause of €40m, though Brazilian reports suggest a deal could be done for €30m (£25m). For now, the club have resisted approaches, selling other players to ensure he stayed in Rio at least until January.

“One day I’ll be with the national team”

Rayan himself has tried to keep his focus on football. “I’m working hard here and one day I’ll be with the national team,” he said recently to Globo Esporte. He also praised Diniz as a father figure: “Since he arrived, he talks to me every day, he has been helping a lot.”

Such words reinforce the image of a grounded player who understands the value of development before the inevitable next step in his career.

But even before Fernando Diniz took over, former Vasco coach Fábio Carille also underlined the options Rayan offers. “I still want to work more to see if he can take the 9 role, or if I make the most of him out wide, where he has strength and instinct. But he sure knows his way around the box”, Carille explained.

His words reflected the same versatility that has since become a defining trait in the youngster’s game. At just 19, Rayan is already Vasco’s joint-top scorer in the league and one of the most productive young forwards in South America.

For Tottenham, and others following him, he represents a mix of potential and readiness. A forward with size, pace, versatility and end product, who looks increasingly likely to make the leap to Europe sooner rather than later.
