Tottenham Hotspur have been handed the latest clue in their reported pursuit of Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush as the weeks of the January transfer window continue to tick by.

Spurs are expected to be busy in the window this month but are yet to confirm any marquee signings despite poor results on the pitch. Thomas Frank’s side were booted out of the FA Cup after a 2-1 home defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday evening.

Dominic Solanke returned to the matchday squad and came off the bench at the weekend in a boost to Thomas Frank but, with Mohammed Kudus now sidelined with injury, adding attacking impetus remains a priority.

Tottenham Hotspur linked with Manchester City striker swoop

One target who has emerged over the recent weeks is Manchester City man Marmoush. The 26-year-old only arrived at the Etihad Stadium from Eintracht Frankfurt a year ago but has fallen down the pecking order this season.

Marmoush bagged eight goals and three assists over the back end of last season but now struggles to get into the starting XI following the arrival of Rayan Cherki. The signing of Antoine Semenyo from AFC Bournemouth won’t help his cause either.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has continued to back the Egyptian, who has been involved at the Africa Cup of Nations. Speaking in October, after the versatile forward scored his only goal of the season so far against Swansea City, Guardiola said: “I’m happy for Omar because strikers need goals and for his confidence it will be important, but he’s been injured a long time and of course can play in the position from Erling.

“Erling is important, but of course we know we need them both and having [Omar] back is so nice. We have incredible deliveries with Phil and especially with Rayan Cherki and Nico Gonzalez who is day by day getting better. And is now fundamental for us. But all of them, the ones who came off the bench, John, Josko, Phil, everyone was really good.”

Spurs and Aston Villa handed clue in Marmoush pursuit

CaughtOffside are the latest to carry reports of Spurs interest in Marmoush. It’s expected that any transfer would see Manchester City looking to make back the £59 million paid a year ago but that a loan move could be preferred by Spurs - the North London club struck a similar loan-to-buy deal for Mathys Tel in January last year.

The outlet also names Aston Villa as potential suitors with Unai Emery in the market for a striker. However, both Spurs and the Villains may have their work cut out to complete the move given the latest from Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg.

Taking to social media platform X with the latest on Manchester City outgoings, Plettenberg wrote: “Antoine Semenyo is understood to be lined up to take the squad place of Oscar #Bobb, who could still move in January. Talks are ongoing. Borussia Dortmund are monitoring the situation and are fully informed about all the details. More clubs are keen on Bobb. Omar Marmoush currently wants to stay, despite numerous enquiries, as previously reported.”

That clue would suggest that Spurs must look elsewhere to strengthen their front line. With Guardiola a fan of the player and the striker himself content in Manchester, brokering a move could prove fruitless for Tottenham.

In other news, Tottenham star could be set for surgery and three months out - and it's not Richarlison.
