Tottenham Hotspur have reached a deal with Serie A outfit Fiorentina to send winger Manor Solomon on loan to the club for the second half of the season.
The 26-year-old hasn’t featured for Spurs since September 2023, a meniscus injury ending that season early for the Argentine after that. Solomon spent last season on loan at Leeds United, picking up 10 goals and 12 assists in the Championship.
The winger had been on loan at Villarreal this term but was struggling for regular minutes in La Liga. Solomon has picked up a goal and four assists in his 11 outings for the side.
Tottenham Hotspur agree new Manor Solomon loan
That loan agreement has been terminated by Tottenham Hotspur and Villarreal, which will allow Solomon to embark on a new experience with Fiorentina. The player has never featured in the Serie A thus far in his career.
Spurs signed Solomon on a free transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023 but the player only managed six appearances before that serious injury. Solomon did register a brace of assists in a 5-2 win over Burnley in the Premier League that season.
Providing the latest on Solomon’s loan switch, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano wrote on New Year’s Eve: “EXCLUSIVE: Fiorentina reach verbal agreement to sign Manor Solomon, here we go! The winger is set to leave Villarreal with loan move to be interrupted and new transfer to Fiorentina from Tottenham. Deal agreed today.”
Thomas Frank on winger recruitment in January
The winger position is set to be a key area of focus for Tottenham Hotspur in January. While Solomon was never expected to be recalled and returned to Frank’s squad, his fresh departure comes at the same time as Brennan Johnson undergoes a medical at Crystal Palace ahead of a reported £35 million move.
Spurs spent £55 million to sign Mohammed Kudus from West Ham in the summer but Frank’s side continues to lack dynamism on the flanks. Speaking after the 0-0 draw with Brentford, Frank was asked about Johnson’s potential departure and his options out wide.
He said: “I think it’s fair to say that Lucas [Bergvall] and Xavi [Simons] are hopefully soon back with the team. They are attacking options and that’s some element, hopefully [Dominic] Solanke at one stage will also come back and help the team. Then that should be fine.
“We are in the market and we are looking for everything we can to see if we can improve the squad. It’s a difficult window and we need to be calm and take right decisions.”
