Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has praised Tottenham Hotspur youngster Lucas Bergvall, believing he is “amazing”.
Fotboll Skanalen cover comments from the Sweden boss today on the 19-year-old after a flying start to the season for him.
Bergvall has found himself a firm fixture in Thomas Frank’s plans at Tottenham early on. He’s already made 10 appearances in all competitions so far and impressed in them too.
He already has a goal and three assists to his name, bagging one of each in the win over West Ham and assists in the wins over Villarreal and Doncaster too.
He’s very much fulfilling his potential early on and appears to be on course to quickly establish himself as a key player at Tottenham this season. Tomasson is very pleased with that and thinks the midfielder has been brilliant.
“Dynamic and plays with power”
“He has been brilliant. He’s played really well,” he said.
“He was not in the training camps in March and June because he had been sick and injured. I have to say that he has played very well now.
“I didn’t watch the game yesterday, but I have seen the rest of his games. He has had an impact on the games; he is dynamic and plays with power. To do that at such a young age is amazing. He is doing a good job.”
Bergvall is very much a talent for the present and future, with Tottenham beating Barcelona to his signature last year.
He’s already made his debut for Sweden in December last year and added three other appearances since then too. He was out of the squad last time, though, something that raised eyebrows and questions in his homeland.
Tomasson appears to be hesitant to throw the Tottenham man into the deep end. He wants to make it clear he’s a big fan, though.
“He has done very well. Very simple: he has done very well in the last month,” he added.
“Apart from the game yesterday (against Bodø/Glimt), I have seen every minute he has played, and he has done very well.
“If you look back at his first year in England: to play so much at that age – then you are quite good. Or quite good is not the right word. He is brilliant. He’s influencing the games a lot at the moment. He creates chances, scores goals and runs deep. He also plays with a lot of physicality.”
