I just watched Newcastle star go back to square one with rotten display, Eddie Howe’s solution is obvious

Newcastle United were not terrible against Tottenham Hotspur, but some of Eddie Howe’s players certainly did not do themselves justice.

It was a frustrating end to what should have been a comfortable night inside St James’ Park. Newcastle United were largely dominant against Spurs, but did not capitalise on the chances they created.

They were ultimately punished, with Newcastle drawing 2-2 with Spurs despite leading twice.

Eddie Howe will be furious with his side’s game management, and the biggest culprit was surely Joelinton.

It’s time to talk about Joelinton. Poor yet again vs Spurs, so should he be dropped?

Eddie Howe has plenty of options in midfield.

Joelinton unable to find consistency as problem returns

It was just over a week ago that Newcastle United beat Manchester City. Howe’s side were spectacular that night, with Joelinton playing particularly brilliantly.

After that game, I praised Joelinton for his performance after previously criticising the midfield enforcer. I called on him to find consistency, but that has not happened.

The 29-year-old did well against Everton on Saturday evening, but followed that up with an infuriating display versus Spurs. He was so wasteful in possession, especially in moments when Newcastle needed control in centre-midfield.

Joelinton’s technical shortcomings were clear for all to see, and it is becoming a major issue for Eddie Howe. The £40million man offers so much with his tactical awareness and physicality, but his ability on the ball continues to hinder the Magpies.

Another goal conceded in stoppage time, what is going on? 😡

That’s four points lost from goals conceded in stoppage time.

Lewis Miley is the solution to Newcastle United’s midfield issue

Should Howe decide it is time to replace Joelinton in midfield, he has plenty of options.

But while Joe Willock and Jacob Ramsey would love to get an extended run in the starting XI, it is Lewis Miley who deserves the opportunity.

The Newcastle United academy graduate has impressed in recent days, retaining his place in the side against Spurs after shining in the win over Everton. Miley was great against the Toffees, while he can also be happy with his display on Tuesday night.

The 19-year-old has become much more physical, while he has the technical qualities that Joelinton is missing.
