Sources: Tottenham accelerate Igor Tudor sack plan after ‘calamitous’ blow
Tottenham Hotspur are set to accelerate plans to sack Igor Tudor after what has been a nightmare spell since he took over as interim manager.
Following the 5-2 Champions League defeat against Atletico Madrid in midweek, calls for the boss’ head have grown louder and hopes are beginning to fade.
Spurs had hoped the appointment of a hard-line interim boss would inspire the players to turn around their season, but it has had the opposite impact.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Tudor has failed to live up to expectations and could be sacked if they lose to Liverpool.
The club hoped Tudor would come in, improve results, and see out the season, but Tottenham could be looking for a new manager sooner than expected.
Tottenham could accelerate Igor Tudor sack plans
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 7 March that Tottenham will give Tudor three games to turn around their fortunes ahead of a crucial period of the season.

However, the result against Atletico Madrid means he may not have as many as that, with the board being encouraged to pull the trigger early.
Tudor will remain in charge for the visit to Liverpool on 15 March, but it came as a surprise to many at the club that he has been afforded that game.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “You wouldn’t think [he would have long left] with everything that’s going on there.
“He was brought in to turn things around at Tottenham, be a bit of a fire fighter and make sure results improved quickly, that hasn’t happened.
“Four straight defeats including the calamitous 5-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League which was another blow to them.
“But it does seem he’s going to get a reprieve and will be in charge for this weekend’s game at Liverpool. If that goes badly, they might have to replace Tudor.
“Spurs didn’t want to have to bring somebody else in, they were hoping Tudor would come in and have an immediate impact and help them climb the table.
“But they find themselves just one point above the drop zone. If results go against them this weekend they could be in that bottom three which was unthinkable probably at the start of the season.”
Who could replace Tudor at Tottenham?
With a growing expectation that Tudor will soon be sacked by Tottenham, they are being forced to assess the market for potential stop-gap replacements.
Spurs had hoped to wait until the summer to land their next manager, when big names are set to become available, but their precarious position has forced their hand.
Former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 9 March that Tottenham could turn to a previous boss, with Harry Redknapp and Glenn Hoddle among the contenders.
Tim Sherwood has also publicly declared his interest in the role, and there is a school of thought which suggests turning to somebody who knows the club could be their best bet.
The fans and players are in desperate need of a boost as the creep towards relegation, meaning their next appointment could be crucial to the club’s future.
