Amidst a busy night of international action for our players on Tuesday, there were key World Cup qualifying wins for Kevin Danso’s Austria and Joao Palhinha’s Portugal.
Kevin came on as a 78th-minute substitute to help Austria see out a 2-1 victory away to Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The result leaves them level with the hosts on 12 points in the top two places in Group H, although second-placed Austria have played one game fewer than every other team in that section.
Joao, meanwhile, came on at a similar time in the game for Portugal as they won 3-2 in Hungary to maintain top spot in Group F. The midfielder’s side were leading 2-1 at the time of his introduction but after Barnabas Varga’s equaliser for the hosts, Portugal won it in the 86th minute via Joao Cancelo.
Elsewhere, Ben Davies captained an experimental Wales side as they lost 1-0 at home to Canada in a friendly. Brennan Johnson was an unused substitute for the hosts.
Luka Vuskovic, meanwhile, played 90 minutes for Croatia Under-21s as they drew 1-1 in Turkey in qualifying for the European Under-21 Championship.
As previously reported, Djed Spence came on for his senior England debut as the Three Lions won 5-0 in Serbia, while Pape Matar Sarr scored a late winner for Senegal as they came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 away to DR Congo.
