Lucas Bergvall featured regularly for Tottenham Hotspur until January.
On January 20th, the Sweden international picked up an ankle injury in Spurs’ Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund. Jun’ai Byfield had replaced him in the 62nd minute in the European tie.
Three days later, Tottenham confirmed the midfielder had undergone surgery, after suffering a ‘high ankle sprain’ against the Bundesliga side. Spurs didn’t mention the timeframe for his recovery.
Bergvall doubtful for World Cup qualifier
Last week, Sport Witness covered claims from Sweden that the 20-year-old could miss Norway’s World Cup qualifier against Ukraine in March.
Sweden boss Graham Potter admitted it’s tough for Bergvall and his Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski, to recover on time for the key clash.
Recent claims have explained Bergvall would be out of action for two to three months. Fotboll Direkt relay that and then provide their own take on the 20-year-old’s rehabilitation.
Positive update on Tottenham player’s recovery
The Tottenham player wore a protective boot after going under the knife. According to the report, he is no longer wearing that now, and this is certainly a positive update.
Fotboll Direkt say ‘things are going in the right direction’ for the player in his recovery process.
The outlet state the current prognosis indicates he could be back on the pitch in around six weeks. This is only if his rehabilitation goes according to the plan and he suffers no further setbacks.
Sweden face Ukraine on March 26th. Taking the Tottenham midfielder’s recovery so far into account, it’s not ruled out for him to be fit on time for the World Cup qualifier. Fotboll Direkt say ‘a race against time awaits the midfielder.’
Earlier this month, Spurs parted ways with Thomas Frank after a series of poor results and performances. The north London club have failed to register a league win in this calendar year.
Tottenham have already confirmed the appointment of Igor Tudor until the end of the season.
