Tottenham are set to complete the signing of RB Leipzig forward Xavi Simons after the Dutchman underwent a medical with the club, beating Chelsea to his signature
Tottenham are on the brink of signing RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons after a last-minute transfer swoop.
The 22-year-old Dutch ace, who seemed Chelsea-bound all summer, has already passed his medical with Spurs. Once the final pieces are sorted, he'll sign a long-term deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, concluding Thomas Frank's hunt for a new No. 10 after missing out on both Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze.
The Europa League champions are set to fork out around £52million (€60m), though insiders at Leipzig suggest the Bundesliga club have also secured a sell-on clause.
Spurs have been operating cautiously, wary that Chelsea might swoop in and seal Simons' signature, as the ex-Paris Saint-Germain and PSV star had already agreed terms with the Blues.
Just a few weeks back, it's believed Tottenham made a discreet enquiry about Simons through his brother and advisor Faustino, only to be told the young star had already given his word to Chelsea.
The tide turned earlier this week when Simons apparently decided he wasn't going to wait for Chelsea. Enzo Maresca's side also started discussions about possibly signing Barcelona's Fermin Lopez, hinting they were weighing up a move for the Spaniard and Alejandro Garnacho.
The Manchester United winger is reportedly in London to finalise his move to Stamford Bridge.
A £40m deal was agreed with United, which includes a 10 per cent sell-on clause, with the Argentine set to sign a seven-year contract.
As of Thursday night, Chelsea were still mulling over whether to make a late move for the Dutch attacking midfielder.
Meanwhile, Spurs haven't completely dismissed the idea of bringing in another striker before Monday's transfer deadline.
