After last weekend’s results, the Premier League relegation battle is almost certainly between West Ham and Tottenham.

Nottingham Forest and Leeds’ victories have given them some breathing space with just five games remaining.

The Hammers failed to take a golden opportunity to extend their lead over Spurs to four points by drawing with Crystal Palace.

Premier League legend Jamie Carragher has now predicted both teams’ last five matches in the 2025/26 season.

Where will West Ham finish this season? 📈 And who will be relegated? ⬇️

Mind the gap, Tottenham Hotspur 😂

Jamie Carragher predicts relegation battle between West Ham and Spurs

Jamie Carragher expects West Ham to draw against Everton on Saturday before winning away to Brentford the following week.

He then tipped the Hammers to lose at home to Arsenal, draw away to Newcastle and beat Leeds on the final day.

Those results would give Nuno Espirito Santo’s side eight more points, taking them to 41 points for the season.

Jamie Carragher’s predicted West Ham results

Meanwhile, Carragher has predicted Tottenham to earn their first league victory in 2026 against Leeds next weekend on May 11.

He also believes Spurs will beat David Moyes’ Everton on the final day, but that would still not be enough to survive.

Two draws and a defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge would leave them on 39 points, two below West Ham.

Hammers fans will have their fingers crossed that Carragher’s predictions come true and Tottenham exit the Premier League.

Jamie Carragher suggests West Ham target 40-point mark

Carragher also explained how a Premier League cliché could finally be accurate at the end of the 2025/26 season.

Managers have often spoken about reaching 40 points to be safe from relegation, but that has rarely been the case.

Jamie Carragher says West Ham need 40 points! Do you agree? 🤔

Teams have often stayed up on 35 points recently, whereas that is highly unlikely to be enough for West Ham or Tottenham.

Carragher insisted that either team will genuinely need 40 points to avoid going down due to the close competition this year.

“Well, for a very long time, we’ve laughed at almost every manager saying, ‘We’ve got to get 40 points,’ because you’ve never needed it,” he said.

“This is the season where I think you will need 40 points. I think, if you get 40 points, that will just do it.

“There is still a way to go for some of those (relegation-threatened) teams there, so there is lots to play for.”
