Tottenham face a big rebuilding job under Roberto De Zerbi in the forthcoming summer transfer window after preserving their top-flight status.

Tottenham Hotspur avoided relegation from the Premier League on the final day of the season. By edging Everton 1-0 at home, they finished 17th for the second season running in the league. It made them safe and saw West Ham go down, but back-to-back narrow shaves simply cannot be overlooked.

After guiding Spurs to safety, Roberto De Zerbi hopes to improve his options in multiple key positions. He has already made transfer demands known to the Tottenham board, and the onus now will fall on the N17 bosses to rebuild the squad following a forgettable season. While there has been plenty of talk of potential incoming deals at White Hart Lane, there are major concerns that some of their top players could push to leave.

Cristian Romero has been heavily linked with an exit from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Micky van de Ven, Romero’s centre-back partner, is also going to be a sought-after commodity in the summer transfer window, while the futures of Richarlison and Guglielmo Vicario remain up in the air.

A major overhaul could be on the cards, despite the North Londoners avoiding the dreaded drop. De Zerbi appears reluctant to lose star players, but there are some high-profile players who want out after a lack of European football next season.

Now, talkSPORT host Jeff Stelling has listed the priority positions De Zerbi must address in the summer. He wants the Spurs board to loosen their purse strings and be ruthless in their recruitment drive.

“They certainly need a goalkeeper. I know the boy [Kinsky] did well in the latter stages. “He needs a striker, they need a new central defender, a wide player. They need massive investment. They need to be ruthless,” Jeff Stelling said on the talkSPORT show.

Tottenham have to be ruthless and relentless

Indeed, Stelling is right! Tottenham have to be ruthless and offload the deadwood first from the squad. By doing so, we will get funds and space to manoeuvre and build a squad in the vision of De Zerbi.

Even if De Zerbi thinks of promoting Kinsky as the club’s new No.1 next season, we need a new goalkeeper as a potential Vicario replacement. Richarlison ended up with 11 league goals, which is a good tally considering our struggles in attack, but if Spurs are to progress and become a serious club again, an upgrade on the Brazilian is an absolute necessity. As Wilson Odobert is out with an ACL injury and Mathys Tel still needs to sharpen up his game, a winger has to be on the gaffer’s agenda.

It remains to be seen whether ENIC deliver on their promise and provides De Zerbi with the right tools to compete in the Premier League in the 2026/27 season.
