Luka Vuskovic’s future at Tottenham has become uncertain following the recent transfer activities.

Tottenham Hotspur finished two points ahead of 18th-placed West Ham, who were relegated at the end of last season, and now the club’s hierarchy are keen to avoid being in another relegation struggle next term.

The Lilywhites have already confirmed experienced left-back Andy Robertson is joining from Liverpool on a free transfer, while centre-back Marco Senesi is also inbound from Bournemouth. Tottenham remain in talks with Brighton and Hove Albion for the signing of highly-rated defender Jan Paul van Hecke. They have agreed personal terms with Van Hecke, who wants to be reunited with Roberto De Zerbi in N17.

Amid Spurs’ defensive rebuild, there are a few defenders whose futures at the club have become uncertain. One of those is Luka Vuskovic. Recent reports suggest Luka Vuskovic would be open to leaving Tottenham this summer. Bayern Munich and other top European clubs have made initial contact for details on a possible deal for the highly-rated central defender.

Alasdair Gold drops verdict on Luka Vuskovic’s exit links from Tottenham

Luka Vuskovic spent the past season on loan with SV Hamburger in the Bundesliga and won the league’s young player of the season award. Tottenham’s second-most valuable player, the Croatian international, has reportedly instructed his agent to pause all transfer-related activities until the World Cup concludes.

Nonetheless, that hasn’t stopped clubs from different European leagues circling him. There have even been reports that Spurs could sell Vuskovic without having played a game for the club, with De Zerbi having identified Senesi and Van Hecke as his preferred centre-back additions to rebuild the backline.

Reliable Football London journalist Alasdair Gold has now given his verdict on Vuskovic’s situation at the club. He thinks it would be “insane” if Spurs accept a bid for the talented teenager.

“Everyone I’ve spoken to said Vuskovic has got way higher ceiling than van Hecke. Van Hecke is a very good Premier League player, but Vuskovic can be, in the words of Thomas Frank, a top, top, top player in world football, and I know there’s some suggestions that Spurs, you know, maybe would accept a bid for him this summer. That would be insane! That would be absolutely insane!” Alasdair Gold said on his YouTube channel.

“You don’t sign a player of that much talent, and then everyone else sees that talent, wants to sign him, and then you go, ‘yeah, we don’t need him’. Yes, you do need him, whether it is now or in the future, you need potentially world-class players, and that is what people are saying about Vuskovic. He will reach that level, so no way on earth that would be the stupidest transfer.”

Another loan on the cards

Indeed, Spurs deciding to sell Vuskovic would be insane. To even think about it sounds ludicrous, particularly with the way he has enjoyed a meteoric rise in European football.

With Micky van de Ven having decided to stay after the North Londoners stayed up, the potential acquisitions of Senesi and Van Hecke would only push Vuskovic down the pecking order. And as Spurs will not be participating in Europe next season, the amount of games should be fewer compared to the past campaign. So, a departure for the teenager looks certain. Tottenham are unlikely to sanction a sale of the highly-rated Croat, so he might go out on loan again.

Another year with Hamburg cannot be completely written off.
